EDU is a mobile aquaponic system, oriented towards training and learning. It is built in autoclave wood, galvanized steel joints and tarred embellishment panels. The fixings are made up of zinc-plated screws of different dimensions and has wheels with brakes on each pillar of 500 kg load. It is composed of a sump, DWC, floating Balsa substrate bed and fish tank, managed by a bell siphon and a sediment absorption T-siphon. All of this is powered by a water pump and an aerator.

We developed an educational system specifically tailored for schools. The design process was initiated by asking ourselves a fundamental question: How can we effectively teach aquaponics to young students and incorporate its concepts into their curriculum, considering the limitation that the classroom cannot serve as an actual harvesting field? As a result, we arrived at our design, which prioritises four key aspects: security, mobility, simplicity, and durability.

EDu is a powerful tool beyond the UN’s 2030 agenda. It is also a means that can be used by teachers in the teaching of STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). In addition to the fixation of concepts and practical experimentation of STEM knowledge, it awakens in the student leadership skills, empathy and concentration.

What We Did ?

We researched materials for the construction of a mobile aquaponic system that was robust, safe and could be used to apply aquaponics in the student curriculum. It should be able to move from one classroom to another, resist the manipulation, always difficult, of the students. It should be able to be manipulated with ease by any adult by traction or push and offer capabilities to incorporate extras such as blackboard, informative panels,… We did it and there is nothing like it on the market.
