La Huerta del Lugá

Three systems, different ways to explore aquaponics

Growing food and sharing knowledge

Since 2024Alhaurín el Grande · MálagaDemonstration and learning

La Huerta del Lugá is an ecological growing initiative in Alhaurín el Grande, Málaga, where local women growers cultivate their own plots. Our collaboration brings aquaponics into this agricultural setting, connecting the care of fish and plants with a practical approach to water use and food production.

The site brings together three working systems: Petit, Silvia and Pascale. Each has a different size and layout, allowing visitors to compare designs, materials and components and see how the water moves between them. Together, they provide a living resource for demonstrations, school visits and hands-on learning.

Petit, Silvia and Pascale

Different sizes and designs, experienced side by side.

Petit aquaponic system

Petit

A compact system in a small greenhouse, showing how growing areas and water circulation can be arranged within a limited space.

Silvia aquaponic system

Silvia

An outdoor layout that offers another way to organise the tanks and growing areas, with the components accessible for observation and explanation.

Pascale aquaponic system

Pascale

A larger greenhouse installation, with several growing areas and a more extensive water circuit, providing a broader view of how an aquaponic system works.
