Aquaponics for schools

Explore. Design. Build. Learn together.

Bring science and sustainability to life through real aquaponic systems. Choose a complete school programme or individual visits and workshops, adapted to your students and learning objectives.

Practical learning with real systems

For teachers and school leaders

Come and explore before planning your programme

We welcome teachers to La Huerta del Lugá in Alhaurín el Grande, Málaga, for an exploratory visit with no obligation. See our working aquaponic systems, ask questions and discuss how the activities could support your teaching.

  • See fish tanks, growing beds, filtration and water circulation.
  • Discuss curriculum links, group needs and practical arrangements.
  • Discuss teacher training, system care and follow-up support as part of your programme.

The complete programme

From first discovery to a working school system

Three connected stages, planned with your teaching team.

01

Discover at school

An introduction to aquaponics at your school, connecting fish, plants and water with science, sustainability and design. A demonstration with our mobile EDU system can be included.

02

Explore our facilities

Visit La Huerta del Lugá to compare Petit, Silvia and Pascale. Through guided observation and practical workshops, students explore components, materials, growing methods and water quality.

03

Build and bring it to life

Work alongside ACS to assemble an EDU or DD JENNY system at school. We help plan the design, source materials, commission the system and explain its operation and care.

The system and activities are selected together with the school, taking account of space, available materials, budget and ongoing care.

Flexible options

Choose an activity that fits your school

Book independently or combine activities into your own learning journey.

Activities in English or Spanish
We plan the content and timing with your teaching team, adapting to the year group, curriculum, timetable and available space.

School introductions

An accessible talk or demonstration to introduce aquaponics and spark questions.

Guided facility visits

See three working systems and discover how their designs and growing methods differ.

Personalised workshops

Explore water quality, the nitrogen cycle, plants, fish, materials or system design through practical activities.

Student project support

Advice and practical guidance for a class build or an individual school project.

Workshops by age group

Learning that grows with your students

Examples to help plan your visit or workshop. Activities and learning outcomes are adapted with teachers to the class, curriculum and support needs.

Ages 5–8

Discover through observation and play

Explore the relationship between fish, plants and water through storytelling, drawing, planting seeds and observing or helping feed the fish under supervision.

Possible student work
A drawing of their own aquaponic garden, showing fish, plants and water.

Ages 9–13

Investigate with practical science

Discover water circulation and basic system design. Try guided water testing, measure pH, plant or transplant seedlings and discuss sustainable food production.

Possible student work
A poster or group reflection explaining aquaponics and sustainability.

Ages 14–18

Explore design and systems thinking

Investigate water chemistry, including pH, ammonia and nitrates. Explore design choices, troubleshooting, environmental impacts and study or career pathways.

Possible student work
An infographic, written reflection or concept sketch for an aquaponic system.

See it in practice

From a facility visit to DD JENNY at SIS

During the 2025–2026 school term, Year 10 students at Sotogrande International School explored our three systems at La Huerta del Lugá. We then built a DD JENNY system together at school and returned to commission it with fish and plants.
